28 Dec: UK - Beijing

Journey begins as we depart on our scheduled flight to Beijing.

29 Dec: Beijing

Arrival in Beijing. Chauffeur to our hotel and settle in. Enjoy a welcome dinner tonight.

30 Dec: Beijing

Our day begins with the sacred Temple of Heaven, a place of solitude, contemplation and where once the emperor's spoke in hushed whispers to the gods in heaven to pray for continuing prosperity & good harvests. Move onto the Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world, before retracing the steps of the great emperors of China and wander amongst the imperial splendour of the Forbidden City. Later we walk through the imperial Jingshan Park and climb up to the Jingshan Hill, time is matched to catch the panaroma sunset over the golden rooftop of the 999 rooms of Forbidden City!

31 Dec (New Year's Eve): Beijing

You can't help being impressed with the majestic and beautifully landscaped Summer Palace, an extensive assembly of temples, pavilions and halls nestling on the banks of Kunming lake.
After lunch in a local restaurant, we will visit the 2008 Olympics Games Park and glimpses the Bird Nest Stadium and Water Cube Stadium.
After freshen up in hotel, prepare for this evening's New Year's Eve program.

1 Jan (New Year Day): Beijing

Our first day in 2009 will be spent on the Great Wall of China! Climb up to the top of this magnificent structure with unforgettable views and a glass of bubbly!
On our way back, stop by a Cloisonne Workshop to admire this unique & sophisticated art form that originated in Beijing in the 13th century.

2 Jan: Xian

Depart for a morning flight to the ancient capital of Xian where later today we will journey out to the UNSECO World Heritage Sites of the Terracotta Warriors. Here you will have plenty of time to personally inspect the eternal guard of the First Emperor.

3 Jan: Xian

After a mouth-watering buffet breakfast in our deluxe hotel overlooking the massive Ancient City Walls, we across the street to climb up and stroll along the Ancient City Wall and South Gate before moving onto the Drum Tower whose rich beat once brought closure to the city gates in the medieval times and the beautifully preserved Big Wild Goose Pagoda with its reverberating chant of Buddhist mantra.

4 Jan: Chengdu

Today is a day of anticipation. After a short flight to Chengdu, we will pay a visit to the Chengdu Panda Sanctuary where we will discover all about this endangered species, which are only a few centimetres long when born and get up close to watch them at play.

5 Jan: Chengdu - Shanghai

Another exciting day is in prospect as we embark on an excursion to Leshan Grand Buddha - the world's largest of its kind having been fashioned out of a sheer cliff face and sitting at an impressive 233ft high. This stunning example of a Buddha carved on a truly gigantic scale required tremendous dedication and took almost a century to complete.
From here we take a late afternoon flight to Shanghai. Evening at leisure.
* Those who choose Sanya Beach Resort extension will be transferred for flight to Sanya later this afternoon

6 Jan: Shanghai

Half day city tour pointing out the highlights such as The Bund, Yuyuan Garden & Bazzar and Old French Concessionary. You will then enjoy the rest of the day at leisure enabling you to further explore the city; sample the local cuisine; try your hand bargaining at local markets or perhaps pamper yourself with a traditional Chinese massage.

7 Jan: Shanghai - UK

After a relaxed buffet breakfast at hotel, transfer to the airport for your return flight home. Arrival is scheduled in the same afternoon.

Optional extension in Shanghai is £35/person/night inc. breakfast on twin sharing room.
